Three Rivers was initially opened as a casino-only facility in 2004. Immediately loved by Oregon Coast residents and visitors, the Casino’s success led to the expansion of the facility into a full-service resort including the adjoining hotel in 2007. Owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians, Three Rivers Casino Resort has strong ties to the surrounding community along the Central Oregon Coast. As one of the largest employers in the area, Three Rivers provides resources and opportunities for both tribal and non-tribal members of the region. In addition to providing local jobs, Three Rivers sponsors local arts programs for both professional and children’s theater, and donates to dozens of local and regional non-profit organizations. While the history of Northwest Native Americans goes back at least eight millennia, first contact with Europeans began in the late 1700s when the welcoming people rowed out to the ships and traded meat for goods. By 1836, trade had reached such a level that the Hudson Bay Company established Fort Umpqua. Later, federal expansionist policies, with their failed treaties and broken promises, forced the tribes to continually move between 1856 and 1876. The Siuslaw River offered a haven of untouched land until even that land was taken by settlers in 1876.

In 1916, the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians was formed and began to wage a legal battle that took almost three-quarters of a century to settle. In 1984, CTCLUSI finally gained federal recognition and the restoration of some lands. Since that time, tribal members have worked tirelessly to improve the social and educational status of their people. One of the main enterprises in achieving this goal is Three Rivers Casino Resort.

In 2011, CTCLUSI and Three Rivers Casino Resort founded the Three Rivers Foundation with the goal of giving back to the community that has been so supportive. We believe that the land and the people are tied together; that we are interconnected. We support initiatives that will improve the lives, health, and happiness of Oregonians, as well as enrich our surrounding environment. Every year, the Three Rivers Foundation donates thousands of dollars in grants to non-profit organizations and projects both locally and state-wide.
