Ocean Dunes Golf Links

Golfers who come to Florence, Oregon will appreciate a day at the Ocean Dunes Golf Links. This challenging 18-hole course, with a par of 71 and a slope of 124, provides a double green that tucks in amidst wild dunes. As savvy golfers know, a links is one of the oldest styles of golf courses, first developed in Scotland in coastal sand dune areas; in fact, the word “links” comes from the Old English word hlinc, which meant “rising ground” or a “ridge” like a sand dune. The challenges of a links course have to do with nature; the coastal locations create fairways that are less even and are frequently windy. This requires players to play low, accurate shots. The beautiful fairway at Ocean Dunes is a perfect example of a links course that will challenge your skills.

William G. Robinson designed the Ocean Dunes Golf Links with coastal weather in mind. It is better protected from the wind than many other coastal courses and, because it is built on a natural sand base that makes it well drained, golfers can expect a dry, firm surface that is playable year round. To make the course more fun (or frustrating, depending on your point of view), links-style “pot bunkers” edge greens and fairways. Throughout the dunes, golfers can appreciate native coastal plants that include sea grasses and heather, shore pines and wax myrtles. In May, when the rhododendrons are in bloom, the views are particularly stunning. Fans of this course regularly report that it is both fun and challenging, with tight fairways and greens.

The Ocean Dunes Golf Links are at 3345 Munsel Lake Road in Florence, just five minutes from Three Rivers Casino. Visit our website for directions to the links.
