Boat and Fishing Show at Three Rivers
With warm weather right around the corner, it’s time to think about getting on the water. Jump start your season by attending The Boat Show at Three Rivers Casino & Hotel and get inside information on when, where and how to fish Oregon waters. The show runs Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27 in the Casino’s Event Center and will feature a display of over 20 of the latest boats from Y Marina in Coos Bay. Numerous fishing exhibits and presentations scheduled throughout each day will provide information on everything from fly fishing basics to boat safety to charter and guide services. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will also be at the Event Center every day from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm offering free boat inspections to make sure your craft is seaworthy. Exhibitors include Y Marina, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Siuslaw Fisherman’s Association, North Country Flies and Lures (with hourly presentations), Desoto Expeditions Guide Service/Fish Taxidermy, Salmon Harbor Charters, Florence International, Prowler Charters, FFP & Sisters Compound Rods. Saturday and Sunday you can see Dick Sagara representing Temple Fork Outfitters and Jim Teeny Inc., and Clackacraft for hourly fly fishing demonstrations. A daily schedule of presentations includes:
11:00 daily: Fishing COW (Central Oregon Waters) – discover the top spots for fishing as well as which ties are best for those waters,
2:00 daily: Invasive Species – learn how snails, algae and rock snot affect fishing conditions,
5:00 daily: Fishing the Holy Water on the Rogue River – learn about this spectacular area offering year-round fly fishing.

$855,975 Wheel of Fortune
Reed Zander and his fiancée, Jamie Mustoe of Eugene received an early wedding present from the Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Three Rivers Casino & Hotel on Tuesday, April 15, winning an $855,975 jackpot. Reed was at Three Rivers Casino in Florence and had been playing the machine for about twenty minutes when it hit the maximum jackpot. Wheel of Fortune machines are connected to all west coast Native American casinos. International Gaming Technologies (IGT), manufacturer of the machines, confirmed Reed’s winnings, and will pay the jackpot in a lump sum or in payments over 25 years. Reed is 31 years old and works in Eugene. He and Jamie have an August wedding planned. Asked about plans for his winnings, Reed said they’re looking forward to paying off their house and buying a new car. He also noted that he had never had a real vacation and is now making plans to take one. This is the second large jackpot since the casino opened in 2004. A Florence resident won 1.3 million dollars in 2005 playing at one of the progressive slot machines.

Couple Wins Special Night

Jackie and John Franklin enjoyed Sunday’s sold-out performance by 38 Special on Sunday night at Three Rivers Casino & Hotel, and got to meet the band, courtesy of KCST Radio. Jackie won the 38 Special grand prize in a contest sponsored by the radio station. To enter the drawing, contestants registered at four area businesses: Laurel Bay Gardens, Coastal Hearth and Home, 321 Video and On Your Feet. Luck was definitely on her side Friday morning when Jackie’s name was drawn for the grand prize. Everyone had a great time at the 38 Special concert, especially Jackie and John, who enjoyed meeting members of the band. The concert was put on by Three Rivers Casino, which is bringing many popular acts to Florence such as Dueling Pianos April 18- 20, Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone in June and The Coasters in July.

New Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee to Perform at Three Rivers

Two months after being inducted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nokie Edwards has agreed to perform at the Three Rivers Casino & Hotel entertainment center. This Sunday, February 24, 2008 Three Rivers Casino and Hotel presents Nokie Edwards and the Hitchhikers for an exclusive engagement from 5pm to 10pm in Aces Sports Lounge Tickets are available now at the casino or online at www.threeriverscasino.com. On December 13, 2007, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced Nokie Edwards, an Oregon resident, as one of the inductees for 2008. Nokie Edwards is universally recognized as one of the world’s premier guitarists. He was born Nole Edwards in 1935 in Lahoma, Oklahoma, hence the nickname, "Nokie" which was given to him by his father, Elbert. Nokie’s mother, Nannie, was a Native American Cherokee, and Nokie is proud of his Cherokee heritage. Nokie lives in Oregon with his wife Judy. He has been making chart stopping music for nearly 40 years, hitting it big with the legendary group, The Ventures. In 1959, while Nokie was playing lead guitar for Buck Owens, he was approached by Don Wilson and Bob Bogle, a couple of guitarists from Washington. They asked Nokie to join them in forming a band which later became known as The Ventures. The group’s first single was a remake of guitarist Chet Atkins’ ‘Walk Don’t Run,’ which was written by jazz guitarist Johnny Smith. While touring with The Ventures, Nokie played lead on many famous hits that were recorded by Nokie and The Ventures by such as Hawaii 5-O’, ‘Fugitive, ‘2000, Yellow Jacket , Sleep Walk, Let’s Go, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Wipe Out and Pipeline. As busy as he is, Nokie always makes time for an autograph session and to be with his fans, especially his Oregon fans.

Monkeying Around At Three Rivers Casino & Hotel
Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees will perform at the new Three Rivers Casino & Hotel entertainment center March 14th and 15th. Dolenz and his legendary pop band shocked the music industry in the 60s by generating a slew of hit records including "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer." Dolenz was the drummer in the band and on the popular TV show. He was also the lead vocalist on “The Last Train to Clarksville. Michael Bolton Tickets on Sale at Three Rivers Casino & Hotel
Grammy Award  winner Michael Bolton will perform at the Three Rivers Casino & Hotel entertainment center on January 19th and 21st. The singer songwriter will not only perform, he will also spend three days in Florence and help the newly expanded casino celebrate its grand opening. Tickets are now available at the casino site or online at www.threeriverscasino.com. In between his two concerts, on January 20th, Bolton has agreed to help select the winner of a new home to be given away by Three Rivers. The winner will be chosen at random among the guests who have picked up entries. Seven Finalists will take the stage with Bolton on the 20th and he will help pick the winner and make the announcement at the casino’s event center.  The other six finalists will win prizes that include cash and free slot play. All finalists will get to meet and greet him. The drawings will begin on Saturday the 19th at 1:00 pm and continue through the weekend. Bolton is a two-time Grammy Award winning artist. Over the course of his career he has sold over 52 million albums and singles worldwide. While he is best know for his singing, he’s also a prolific songwriter, having written songs for Barbara Streisand, KISS, Kenny Rogers and Cher.  In 1993, he established the Michael Bolton Foundation (now the Michael Bolton Charities) to assist women and children at risk from the effects of poverty and emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Three Rivers Unveils New Flash Cash Game
With the Grand Opening of Three Rivers Casino and Hotel comes the unveiling of a new game that allows guests to win cash if someone else hits the only-in-Oregon Flash Cash jackpot. Here’s how it works:  First, you must join the Players Club, which is free.  Then you get your chance to win a free slot play with Flash Cash while playing one of 650 new slot machines.  Keep playing while the unique progressive jackpot builds to $25.000.  Then, when it hits, not only does a lucky winner go home with a bundle of cash, but everyone using a Players Card joins in the payday.  Three Rivers celebrates by giving $25 in free slot play to all other members using their Players Card in a slot machine. The $25,000 jackpot is electronically linked to all the slot machines in the casino and can go off anytime but it must hit before it reaches the $25,000 level.  The only eligibility requirement is that you must be using your club card at the time. Cottage Grove Couple First In Line To Say ‘I Do’ At Three Rivers
There will be other couples who get married and honeymoon at the new Three Rivers Casino & Hotel. But there will never be another couple who did it first. That’s what sparked soon-to-be newlyweds Sheri Peters and Gary Silva. The two Cottage Grove residents will tie the knot in a ceremony on December 22nd, two weeks after the facility officially opened its new expanded casino, hotel, entertainment center and restaurants. The bride and groom are both employed by Guaranty RV. To help the couple celebrate, Three Rivers is donating a complimentary deluxe suite and the use of the casino’s ceremony room. Three Rivers Casino & Hotel Concerts help Florence Food Share
The Florence Food Share is proud to announce that 3,213 pounds of food were received from the Three Rivers Hotel & Casino opening weekend of benefit concerts. After three years of operating in a temporary casino and 18 months of planning and construction the new Three Rivers Casino and Hotel opened its doors to the public on Monday December 3, 2007. The following weekend, Three Rivers opened its new and beautiful Events Center with local country and western star Amy Clawson, followed on Saturday night with legendary Oregon bluesman Curtis Salgado. Three Rivers generously offered free tickets but admission required three cans of food to be donated to Florence Food Share, a local emergency food box pantry affiliated with the Oregon Food Bank and FOOD for Lane County. “We are excited to be included in these festivities and we are so grateful for the donations, “said Florence Food Share Executive Director Karen Lyn. “Everyone was generous and the casino staff was very helpful.” The concerts drew nearly 1,200 people who not only saw great entertainment but also made the holidays brighter for so many families in need.

The whirling red and purple neon lights on the 650 slot machines are working. The 93 oversized hotel suites have been dusted one last time. And the chefs running the five restaurants are checking spices and polishing silverware. Three Rivers Casino & Hotel is ready to open. Storm? What storm? After three years of operations in a temporary facility and 18 months of planning and construction, the newly expanded tribal casino will open its doors to the public today at 12:00 PM. Media wishing to cover the opening should be on site no later than 11:30 am. Photographers will be allowed to shoot the Tribal blessing from Chief David Brainard. A ribbon-cutting by the tribal elders will precede the formal opening. The opening festivities will last through the end of January, beginning with weekend concerts on December 7th and 8th by Curtis Salgado and Amy Clawson. The concerts – which are already sold out -- will benefit Florence Food Share, an affiliate of the Food for Lane County. Tickets for country singer Collin Raye’s concerts on December 28th and 29th go on sale next Friday. The $56 million expansion is one of the largest construction projects in Lane County in 2007. Three Rivers has hired an additional 250 people – bringing the number of employees to 430. It has become one of the economic anchors of the coastal economy of the Central Oregon Coast. This is the first new casino built in Oregon in ten years and will offer the latest technology in gaming and feature five new restaurants – all under one roof. The Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and the Siuslaw Indians opened a temporary casino in June of 2004.With the success of that facility, the tribes’ successfully financed the expansion of the new Three Rivers Casino & Hotel. The new casino and is four times the size and features 650 slot machines, expanded table games, including blackjack, craps and roulette as well as live poker. Oregon’s Salgado and Clawson Headline Casino Opening
A Catchy Jingle and a Fundraiser Spark Opening Week Excitement

For the past three months they’ve been mixing voices for the new Three Rivers Hotel & Casino jingle.  Now, they are hitting the stage at the casino’s opening weekend, Friday, December 7th and Saturday, December, 8th. Curtis Salgado, a legendary Oregon bluesman for the past 30 years has teamed up with Amy Clawson, an Oregon-based country and western singer to record the new Three River’s radio and TV jingles. The two performers will also headline opening weekend concerts. Amy Clawson will perform Friday night and Curtis Salgado will take the stage Saturday night.  There is no charge for tickets, but seating will be assigned.  Tickets are available at the Three Rivers Hotel & Casino website or at the casino. Concert-goers are asked to bring three cans of food per person on the night of the concert to benefit Florence Food Share, an affiliate of the Food for Lane County.“We had our pick of top level musical acts from all over the country for our first weekend,” said Three Rivers General Manager Mike Rose.  “But when it got right down to it, we decided this should be an event done in classic Oregon style. And it should be something that benefits others.”Rose said the pair was chosen to do the casino’s radio jingle for the same reasons. “This community and Oregon is a very important part of who we are,” he said.  That just seems to come through in everything we do.”Salgado, sometimes called “the original Blues Brother,” carved his bluesy and soulful image in Eugene during the 1980s.  It was in Eugene that he teamed with Robert Cray. He now travels the world touring his new album Strong Suspicion. Clawson, who lives in Florence, broke into the country western music world as a teenage sensation.  At 14 she recorded with Sawyer Brown in Nashville and went on to sold out shows in Branson. Missouri.  By 16, she was already working with the biggest stars in country music, including Toby Keith, Mel Tillis and Charlie Daniels. Nearly 20 years later she is still working. Her latest CD is Cowboy Up.

Three Rivers Names New Hotel Manager
Three Rivers Casino and Hotel has reached into the management ranks of a competitor to find its new hotel manager. Casey Padilla will oversee hotel operations at the new 93 room resort that’s expected to be completed later this year.   For the past seven years, Padilla has been a hospitality manager at The Mill Casino in Coos Bay.  Before that he worked for the Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville. Padilla is a Certified Hospitality Supervisor through the American Hotel & Lodging Association. He and his family will make their home in Florence.

Three Rivers Hires Longtime Employment Boss
Three Rivers Casino and Hotel has tapped a 22 year state employment veteran as its new Director of Human Resources. Stephanie Mathews, who worked as a manager for State of Oregon Employment Department since 1985, has her work cut out for her. For starters, she will oversee the hiring of 250 people to accommodate the expansion and opening of the new Three Rivers Casino and Hotel. Then she must coordinate training opportunities for all new and existing employees. “It’s a huge challenge but it’s one that I welcome.  It’s always rewarding to offer good jobs to people who want to work hard and have fun,” Matthews said. Her new position is effective immediately.  She will temporarily be working out of the Three Rivers Casino and Hotel Employment and Information Center at 3757 Highway 101, Florence. The Employment and Information Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  The casino and hotel are hiring employees to serve in jobs ranging from blackjack dealers, to cooks to managers.

Three Rivers Opens Employment Center
Wanted: Hardworking Oregonians Who Enjoy Life
With the task of hiring 250 new employees, the new Three Rivers Casino and Hotel is setting up an employment center in Florence. Beginning August 24th, 2007, the Three Rivers Casino and Hotel Employment and Information Center will open for business at 3757 Highway 101, Florence. This is the newly renovated and historic building which was formerly the Windward Inn. With the scheduled opening less than four months away, Three Rivers officials say they have their work cut out for them. “It’s a daunting task to fill all these jobs,” said Three Rivers Human Resources Director Stephanie Mathews.  “But we have an advantage in offering good paying jobs that include a lot of fun and a lifestyle that includes the Oregon coast.” Grand opening of the employment center is August 24th. A ribbon cutting ceremony with the Florence Chamber of Commerce and local officials is scheduled for noon. The casino will also unveil the winning photos taken by local photographers. Their photographs will be hung in the hotel rooms and throughout the facility. The Employment and Information Center will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  It will be open until 8:00 pm on opening day. The casino and hotel are hiring employees to serve in jobs ranging from blackjack dealers, to cooks to managers. “I’m encouraged because of the interest we’ve had so far,” said Mathews. “These are good jobs with good benefits – the kind of jobs that make communities strong.”

Three Rivers Official Shifts to Management Mode at Casino
Bob Garcia has been appointed Assistant General Manager for the Three Rivers Casino & Hotel.  Bob is a tribal member of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and the Siuslaw Indians (CTCLUSI) which owns the Three Rivers Casino & Hotel. His family heritage dates back to the Miluk Coos Indian tribe. Prior to this appointment, Garcia served as the Economic Development Director for the tribes where he was responsible for financing and development of both the existing casino and new casino and hotel.  General Manager Michael Rose said Garcia has been part of the operation from the very beginning.  “His experience, wisdom and work ethic make him a first class addition to our management team.” For his part, Garcia sees the shift as a chance to bolster the Three Rivers operation and the entire economy of the Oregon coast.  “The continued success of Three Rivers Casino and Hotel is vital to our tribes and the businesses in our community,” he said.  He noted that the casino & hotel is in the process of hiring over 250 new employees and that the projected increase in business will benefit hundreds of coastal businesses. Garcia and his wife Dottie live in Florence with their two children. The move is effective August 15th.

Three Rivers Sandblasters In Playoffs
FLORENCE, OR –  The Three Rivers Sandblasters of the Triple-A Legion baseball league is headed to the season playoffs next week.  The first game of the double-elimination playoffs is set for July 26th at 10:00 a.m. at West Albany High School. The games will be broadcast by KCST radio in Florence. The Sandblasters finished the regular season with a 7-5 record. The top three teams from the Sandblasters’ Zone 3 division will compete against the top 3 from Zone 4 with the winners proceeding to the finals in Roseburg in August. The team’s General Manager, Jim Dietz, noted that Zone 3 teams have won the finals in each of the last three years.  He’s bracing for another round of spirited competition.  “These teams come in here and fight, “Dietz said.  “Every game, every inning every pitch.” The Sandblasters, who have been sponsored by Three Rivers Casino for the last two years, are also exploring a post-season trip to play in Australia next winter.

That’s right the Sanddusters as they are called are made up of a bunch of folks young and mostly old each who paid $100.00 to play the real Sandblasters and to be coached by the legendary hall of fame head coach Jim Dietz and our on hometown hero Ray Wells. Three Rivers: Go Ducks! Go Beavers!
Three Rivers Casino & Hotel announced today it has become the first Oregon casino to support both athletic programs at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. Of the nine casinos in Oregon, Three Rivers is the only one that has signed sponsorship agreements with both university athletic programs. “We join thousands of other Duck and Beaver fans in supporting our student athletes,” said Three Rivers marketing manager Rich Colton. “We have always been committed to supporting our community and we consider the Ducks and Beavers part of our community.” The sponsorship packages will include Football and men’s and women’s Basketball for 2007-2008.

The Moving Wall receives $500 from the Three Rivers Casino.

On Saturday May 12th the Three Rivers Casino held its first summer Charity Barbeque.  With the proceeds going directly to support cost of the Moving Wall, the check was for $500. On hand to accept the $500 check from the Vietnam Memorial Park Commission was George A. Goldstein and Michael Wallach. Three Rivers Sandblasters hits another first ever!
Last year the Three Rivers Sandblasters of the Triple-A Legion baseball league was the first legion team to ever play against a professional team, the Eugene Emeralds.  This year they will be the first Legion team to ever open their season in Alaska this time against collegiate level teams. The games will be broadcast by KCST radio in Florence. The Sandblasters open against the Anchorage Bucs on June 11th at 7 pm. The Blasters will play 11 games in ten days against the Bucs, the Kenai Oilers, the Anchorage Pilots, and the Mat-Sue Miners. Leading the team to Alaska will be the new head coach Corky Franklin, who’s also the coach at Southwestern Community College.  Joining him on the staff is Alex Morales, the new pitching coach. Morales also coaches at Southwestern Community College and Marshfield High School. Craig Wells of Florence will serve as Pitching and Bull Pen Coach. In addition, the team’s General Manager, Jim Dietz, has accepted the position of Zone 3 Commissioner.  Zone 3 is the governing body of the league.  Dietz will remain as General Manager of the Sandblasters. “We’re thrilled to open against the Alaska League and I’m honored to coach the first legion team to do this,” said Dietz.  “It gives our players exposure to college coaches and professional baseball scouts that our players would not get otherwise.” Dietz noted that in the last two years the team has helped 17 players make the rosters in junior college baseball.  Others are being recruited by four-year colleges. He said the team is exploring a trip to Australia during next winter. The Sandblasters begin their home stand on Saturday June 23rd at 2pm against Clackamas AAA.  All home games will be played at the Siuslaw High school baseball field in Florence. Three Rivers Casino has sponsored the Florence Legion team for 2 years.
